The unwritten rules, finally written down.
The American job market wasn't built with international students in mind. I'm Daniel Pack, and for more than a decade I've helped students find their own way.

Dan's Journey
I started working with international students in English Conversation Groups as an undergrad, years before I ever learned how to be a career counselor. I wasn't fixing resumes. I was getting to know people: what worried them, what they missed about home, what they wanted out of being here. The resume part came later.
After enough years, I noticed the questions don't change much. Every fall a new group of international students arrives, and by the time they're heading out the door, most of them tell me the same thing: I wish I'd started sooner. I can't sit across from all of them, not even here at Syracuse, so I built this site to reach past whoever happens to land in my office.
So much of this is out of your hands: whether a company will sponsor you, whether you win the visa lottery if they do. You can lose a lot of sleep over things you can't move. This is here to point you back at what you can: a sharper resume, a stronger interview, a real network. None of that controls the visa. All of it is yours.
I've spent more than a decade working with international students on their careers at Syracuse University. I currently serve on the National Career Development Association's International Student Services Committee and its AI Task Force.
